Design Considerations

Printers  now come in a variety of forms and uses.   From the large, multifunction printers for the small business and home  office, to the portable photo printers, Texas Instruments offers a variety of  products to meet the requirements of these systems.

Inkjet:
Inkjet  printers are characterized by their printing mechanism of shooting ink directly  onto the page.  Inkjets can print in  superior quality or can be made portable and efficient to travel with a digital  still camera for printing on the go.   Texas Instruments makes motor controls for both the print head and the  paper feed to enable quality and efficiency controls for the targeted market.

Laser:
Laser  printers are optimal for high volume, but can also produce images in color and  of high quality.  Laser printers work by  applying a charge to the paper target and applying oppositely charged ink toner  to the paper.  This toner is then heated  and fused into the paper.  Texas Instruments  provides motor solutions for the paper feed as well as the toner drum and can  also provide solutions for the rest of the laser system.

Peripherals:
The  latest consumer printers come with a variety of peripherals.  Fax modems may be essential for small  businesses and home offices, while scanner and copier functions are also in  high demand.  The latest offerings may  also include memory card or direct camera inputs to directly print photographs.  Many new printers are now also including  wireless connectivity for direct integration into a user’s wifi network.  Texas Instruments provides a variety of  connectivity solutions for peripherals and networking.
